How to Use An Epilator

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

Using an epilator is quite similar to waxing. You end up pulling out hair from its root. That's why it hurts more than using an electric shaver, but gives you better results that will last you for 4-6 weeks.

Before you start using an epilator remember
If your hair is fairly long (at least 2mm, but no more than 5mm), it will work better. This is because short hair can't be gripped by the epilator. So if need be, let your hair grow a little longer before you use it. You can try first on one arm, but if you feel it is not gripping your hair, you must wait for a few more days for your hair to grow.

Caution
Areas such as your underarms and back of your knees might really be painful to epilate. So please be careful. If your underarm hair is really way too long, first trim it a little with a pair of scissors and then use the epilator. Remember to pull the skin taut and run the epilator in the opposite direction of the hair growth hair growth.

How to Use an Epilator -- Best Practices for Hair Removal
1. Right time to use the Epilator
Choose an evening time to use the epilator. At times, you are left with red skin and bumps when you start using the epilator initially. However, the skin irritating will disappear overnight. With
repeated usage, you will find that your skin gets adapted to being subjected to the epilator.

2. Hot Bath
Take a hot water bath before you begin for easier removal. Dry your skin properly after that.

3. Speed Mode of the Epilator
Use the epilator on the lowest speed mode till you get used to the sensation of your hair getting plucked out.

4. Less Hair Growth Area First
Start on an area where you have lesser hair growth. This will adapt your body and mind to the pain.

5. Stretch Your Skin
Use your other hand to stretch the area of skin so that the epilator can pull out the hair easily.

6. Epilate in the Opposite Direction
While epilating, move the epilator in the direction opposite to that of your hair growth.

7. Taking Breaks
After one session, take a break. Everyone's skin has a different tolerance level and you can spread the process over a few days instead of trying to do the whole thing in one evening. So, maybe you can try doing your arms on one day and legs on another day.

8. Being Patient During Usage of Your Epilator
Epilation is a lengthy process. You will notice an urge to get erratic with the device and wrap up the job. But keep in mind that the best results are obtained when you take time and slowly move the epilator over your skin.

9. Cold Wash
Wash the area you have epilated with cold water properly and then dry your skin again.

10. Sleeping With Minimal Clothing
It would be a good idea to sleep with as less clothing as possible the night you epilate. This is to avoid any sort of irritation arising from the clothing rubbing against the sensitive epilated skin.

11. Moisturizing Your Skin
Apply a moisturizing lotion to your skin only after about half an hour of washing and drying your skin.

12. Exfoliating Your Skin
Exfoliate your skin a couple of days after you epilate. Use a body scrub to rub away dead skin cells and those little red bumps which probably might have appeared on your skin. But then don't go out into the sun immediately. Apply some lotion and sit at home.

Caring for your Epilator
After every use, do not forget to clean your epilator as the hair might clog your device. Most epilators come with a cleaning brush. Use this brush to dust the hair stuck in the head of the epilator. If it is a wet type epilator, it would be a good idea to detach the head, wash it and dry it before assembling the device again.

Epilator vs Waxing

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

Before you begin digging to find your answer on who wins the epilator vs waxing battle, you must understand that both these are the best processes till date for hair removal. However, both these definitely do hurt you to an extent, so let no one preach you anything otherwise!

Is shaving even an alternative?
By the way, some people have thoughts about considering shaving as an alternative to waxing and using an epilator. Let me assure you that using razors or electric shavers does not even come close to the merits of epilating and waxing.
1. You can expect cuts and nicks on your body at times.

2. Your hair is bound to grow faster the next time.

3. Your hair is bound to grow thicker with time if you keep shaving regularly.

4. You are gradually going to start hating the feeling of stubble on your legs.

5. You can expect a rash to break out when you shave.

6. Since hair grows back faster, some of you might need to shave every couple of weeks. However, if your skin is not suited to such frequent shaving, you won’t be in a position to wear sleeveless clothing, shorts, skirts, etc till you shave again. Now how horrible is that!

epilator vs waxing

Epilator vs Waxing - Advantage Waxing:
1. Waxing is a better and more effective alternative compared to using an epilator for your underarms.

2. Since a large part of your skin gets waxed in one go, you feel relatively lesser pain in waxing compared to using an epilator.

3. Some people end up having a bit of redness and skin irritation due to usage of an epilator. In that sense, waxing suits even the most sensitive skins.

4. Waxing generally will not lead to the growth of ingrown hair, which occurs in the case of epilators. However, if you exfoliate your skin regularly, you can get away with this problem.

Epilator vs Waxing – Advantage Epilator:
1. At times, waxing breaks the hair while removal. An epilator on the other hand always plucks the hair from the root because it is a mechanized process as compared to pulling out wax strips by hand.

2. Using an epilator is a clean process. Waxing turns out to be quite messy. For epilators, you can just detach the head and brush off the removed hair from it.

3. Some people end up having a bit of redness and bumps due to waxing. Using the epilator on lower speeds with a cooling glove is a better alternate in such cases.

4. The results are better compared to waxing in the sense that the regrowth of hair takes longer.

5. Certain epilators come with cooling gloves, numbing gloves, massaging attachments, etc which numb the body part you are epilating. This helps in minimizing the pain.

6. With repeated usage of an epilator, your hair starts to get finer and the growth too gets stunted. Therefore you are required to epilate less often with continued usage of an epilator.

7. Certain epilators come with special attachments that are suited for areas such as your bikini line. It’s a horrifying experience to wax that region if you are doing it by yourself.

8. An epilator is quite portable and handy. So if you are off on long trips and vacations, you can easily carry it along with you wherever you go.

9. Epilators require only an initial investment. Generally, epilators don’t have any sort of maintenance too. So as compared to visiting salons, spas, buying wax strips, hot wax, cold wax, etc, epilators turn out to be quite cheap in the long run.

Now you can decide for yourself, who wins the epilator vs waxing battle. Waxing has been quite popular till date and continues to remain so among people who are not introduced to epilators. But to those who have been introduced to epilators, fewer are choosing to go back to waxing. Epilator wins hands down!

Tips to Reduce Pain Using Epilators

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

When to expect pain while using epilators?
1. If you are a beginner using the epilator for the first time
However, you get used to it with time. Before buying your epilator, check if it has an attachment that is specifically designed for beginners. Else, try the epilator on the lower speed mode the first time.

2. If you are a guy with really thick hair
Try waxing first and then go in for epilators after about 12-15 days of waxing.

3. If you are using it in areas like your underarms, behind your knees, etc
In such cases, make sure you have trimmed your hair firstly. Ensure that your skin is quite taut while using the epilator. Before buying your epilator, check if it has certain attachments that are specifically designed for these areas.

4. If the length of your hair is very long
Go in for one session of waxing before using your new epilator. Wait for about 2-3 weeks and let your hair regrow. Try epilation now.

5. If you are using it down there
Trim your hair with a pair of scissors if it is too long or use a hair removal cream at first. Check if your epilator has any special attachments that are suited for that region. Hold your skin taut. Use the epilator initially on the lower speed mode and carefully epilate around that region. The hair that regrows is softer and finer and successive sessions of epilation are less painful. You feel liberated, clean and fresh since there is no hair to trap any odours and secretions!

Tips to reduce pain while using epilators
1. Most importantly, follow the best practices when using an epilator.

2. Nowadays, some epilators come with a cooling glove, which you can use to numb your skin shortly before epilating. Else, just use ice cubes to numb the skin area you are epilating.

3. You could possibly even try a numbing cream from your local chemist.

4. Before buying your epilator, try to find out if it comes with any special attachments that are designed to suit beginners.

5. Some epilators come with different heads that are suited for different areas of your body to give you the best results and also to reduce pain.

6. Get a partner to help you in keeping the skin taut while epilating, thus easing your effort and reducing pain greatly.

7. Get a partner to help you epilate your hair. When somebody else epilates you, your mind believes that it won’t hurt as much as doing it yourself. A large part of the pain is all in your mind!

Do Epilators Hurt?

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

Epilators have been around for quite some time now and their designs have evolved over the years to make them less painful.

To get an idea of the pain you are subjected to while using an epilator, you can imagine 10-15 tweezers plucking individual hair strands all at the same time.

First Time Usage
The first time you use an epilator, it would be incorrect to say that it doesn’t hurt at all. It definitely does hurt because your body and your mind are not suited for a new process. How much it hurts, differs from person to person. However, if done correctly, it won’t be like you will be screaming your guts out and crying with tears or anything even close to that, however sensitive your skin is! Consider it like a multiple ant bites in the worst case!

Regular Usage
As you start to epilate regularly, like every 3-5 weeks, you will notice that with every successive epilation, the pain seems to diminish and you get quite used to it! The results too seem to get better after repeated usage. There is a huge list of advantages to epilating as compared to other methods of hair removal.

How about waxing as an alternative?
The next best option to epilating is waxing. Shaving with razors or even electric shavers doesn’t get even close to being the best option. However, waxing is quite a messy process. There’s also a fear of getting burnt with the hot wax if you are an amateur. Plus waxing actually removes the epithelial layer of your skin along with the hair too! Visiting spas or salons might turn out to be quite a costly affair on a regular basis. If you actually can afford spas for the rest of your life, you could instead consider laser hair removal. But trust me, its expensive!

Epilator Hair Removal

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

How good are Epilators for hair removal...
Before we start to answer this question, let us first try and understand what an epilator actually is and how it really works!

So, what's an epilator?
An epilator is an electric device that basically has a rotating head, which carries a number of metal plates in pairs. When you turn on the epilator and start to slide its head over the surface of your skin for hair removal, the pairs of metal plates come close together and move away from each other in alternate succession.

epilator hair removal

How does the epilator work?
When these plates come together, the grip the hair on your skin, pluck that hair and then move back. This is similar to a multiple tweezers plucking numerous strands of hair from your skin.

As such, the efficiency of working of an epilator cannot be doubted. Epilators have evolved in design significantly since they were first introduced and do a fantastic job of hair removal.

When should you not use the epilator?
You must however note that if your hair is too dense or thick, then directly using the epilator might not give you the best results. Also, if your hair is too short in length, the metal plates of the epilator will not be able to grip your hair strands.

The best thing in such cases is that you first go in for one session of waxing your entire body. After that, give about 2-3 weeks for the waxed hair to regrow to a sufficient length. You can use the epilator then to get great results, stunted hair growth and a smooth skin.

Avoiding Razors & Electric Shavers
Once you start using the epilator, you must make it a point to strictly avoid usage of a razor or even an electric shaver for that matter. Try to use the epilator every 3-4 weeks initially. This will weaken the hair roots, make the hair growth thinner, reduce the frequency with which your hair regrows and smoothen your skin too. You will notice that after repeated usage of the epilator, your skin will stop growing hair too often and will remain clean and smooth for even months together!

Difference Between Epilator & Electric Shaver

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

What is the difference between an Epilator and an Electric Shaver?
An epilator as well as an electric shaver are both used for removal of a significant mass of human hair growing on the skin. An epilator plucks the hair from its roots, whereas an electric shaver cuts the hair at the skin level.

Epilator:
Since, in the case of epilators, the roots of the hair are destroyed, it takes a relatively longer time for the hair to grow again.

Electric Shaver:
Conversely, in the case of electric shavers, since the human hair is only cut at the skin level, you will find that hair in that region will grow again more rapidly than before.

difference between epilator and electric shaver

Epilator:
The hair that grows after epilation is much thinner than before.

Electric Shaver:
In case of an electric shaver or a razor, the hair that grows again is thicker and coarser than before.

Epilator:
Epilators are known to leave back a much smoother skin.

Electric Shaver:
Whereas a razor or an electric shaver will leave back a rougher skin surface, a stubble and possibly skin rashes too at times!

Epilator:
The first time you use an epilator, you can be sure to expect some amount of pain. Imagine, about 10-15 tweezers plucking out hair all at once from your skin. However, with repeated usage, you tend to get accustomed to it and you don’t experience any major pain as such. Repeated usage of epilators can be considered similar to waxing. During your first time usage, you must first go in for a session of waxing, then let your hair grow to a sufficient length for a couple of weeks and finally try the epilator. Follow this with application of some ice on the surface of your skin to soothe the burning and pain, if required.

Electric Shaver:
On the other hand, an electric shaver will barely hurt, whether it is your first usage or fifteenth!

If you haven’t used a razor or an electric shaver on your skin till now, consider yourself lucky of having stumbled upon this article. It is more advisable that you at least give an epilator a try before you subject your skin to a razor, which will cause coarser and thicker hair to regrow at a much faster pace! And if you have been using a razor, try out the epilator 2-3 times and decide for yourself.

What is an Epilator?

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

What is an epilator?
An epilator is an electrical device, which plucks human hair growing on the skin from its roots. Basically, a significant mass of hair is plucked mechanically by a series of moving metal plates that are fitted in the epilator. This process is referred to as epilation.

What is the process of using an epilator like?
Hair removal through the use of epilators is quite similar to waxing or tweezing, wherein the hair is pulled out from the roots. If you can imagine 12-15 tweezers plucking your hair at once, then that effect is similar to what an epilator does. However, it is not as painful as it sounds. Moreover, epilators do not use any wax, lotions or creams and are cleaner in operation. Epilators can be used for your arms, legs, face, underarms, bikini areas, etc.

epilatorWhat is the mechanical construction and working of an epilator like?
The device is the size of an electric shaver and can be gripped firmly in your hand while using it. The most important part of the epilator is its head. This head is basically a rotating disc that carries pairs of multiple metal plates. When the epilator is switched on, the head starts to rotate rapidly and each pair of plates comes together and moves back in alternate succession. This can be considered similar to tweezing.

When the two plates come close together, they grip the hair on your body. Since there are multiple such pairs of plates, a significant mass of hair on your body gets gripped. Before moving back from each other, the gripped mass of hair is pulled, extracted and discarded by the epilator. This might sound complicated, but all the user needs to do is slowly slide the head of the epilator over the body where hair needs to be removed.

How are epilators powered?
Corded epilators are operated by using direct supply of electricity by plugging them in, whereas as cordless epilators are either rechargeable or run on batteries.

Do epilators require any sort of maintenance?
An epilator has only an initial investment cost. Modern designs of epilators have no replaceable mechanical parts and require no maintenance as such.

What is Epilation?

Advice by: Gina McHenry
Place: Houston, Texas

What is Epilation?
Epilation is a process of removing human hair growing on the skin from its roots. Basically, in this method of hair removal, a significant mass of hair is plucked as opposed to plucking single strands using tweezers.

Methods such as waxing, threading, tweezing and laser hair removal are all a form of epilation because essentially, they all pull out hair from the roots. However, when we talk of hair removal specifically through epilation as opposed to mentioning waxing, threading or tweezing, it actually refers to making use of an electrical device called as an epilator.

Epilation is better compared to using electric shavers and razors. Removing hair using shavers and razors is referred to as depilation. In depilation, the hair is only cut or trimmed at the skin level. This actually stimulates hair growth and the further hair growth is thicker, stiffer and coarse.

what is epilation

Advantages of Epilation
1. Epilation stunts the frequency with which hair re-grows after removal. Therefore, the result is more lasting and you don’t have to keep repeating the process too often.

2. With each successive process of epilation, the hair growth starts to get finer.

3. As opposed to using shavers or razors, using epilators leaves the surface of the skin much smoother.

4. Epilation is relatively cleaner and hassle-free as compared to waxing and shaving.

5. It is probably the cheapest method of hair removal. You have to make only an initial investment in purchasing an epilator.

6. Epilators can be used by you when you are by yourself as opposed to waxing, which may require someone to help you.

Disadvantages of Epilation
1. Hair that needs to be removed cannot be too short. It needs to be of a certain minimum length (at least 2mm, but no more than 5mm) so that an epilator can grip it well before plucking it.

2. If your hair growth is unusually thick, the first few sessions of epilation can be painful.

3. Conversely, if your hair growth is too fine, epilation might not be the most recommended method for it will not effectively facilitate hair removal.

4. Similar to waxing, certain areas like the back of your legs can be hard to reach with an epilator.

5. Areas like your underarms do hurt when epilated as opposed to using a razor in such areas. However, the effect of an epilator lasts much longer and the hair that grows again is finer compared to the coarser hair growth followed by shaving.

How to Kiss Without Nervousness, Anxiety, or Tension Using 3 Easy-to-Follow Steps

Kissing someone can be a downright daunting and scary thought, especially for men because so much is riding on the line. Have one bad first kiss and you can (pardon the pun) kiss your chances with a woman goodbye. Many ladies confess that they judge a lot about a man based on how well (or poorly) he kisses.
Sexual appeal, confidence, compatibility... much of those elements are directly tied into the act of kissing. With that in mind, it's easy to see why a man would be nervous or tense about kissing an attractive woman for the first time. And nothing can ruin a kiss faster than a case of the "first time jitters."
So, the question remains: how does a guy passionately kiss a woman minus the nervous shakes and sweaty palms?
Easy... Just remember these 3 proven steps and follow them when the time comes...
1. Breathe Easy...
The body responds to tense and/or exciting situations by increasing our heart rate, releasing certain chemicals throughout our system, and adjusting our breathing patterns accordingly. Many times, this response comes in handy (such as experiencing an adrenalin rush during the last portion of a sporting event) but for kissing, it's a rather unnecessary and inconvenient reaction.
Reverse this effect by taking deep breaths and concentrating on slowing your heartbeat. However, you should be discreet while doing this. I'm fairly certain a woman wouldn't be turned on by watching you practice your breathing exercises.
2. Relax your mind...
Tip 1 dealt with a lot the physical aspects (such as breathing patterns) of removing nervousness and anxiety... Tip 2 deals with more of the mental side. Get your mind prepared for the upcoming kiss by thinking positively about the situation.
Don't think about what will happen if she turns you down. Instead, think about what will happen after she experiences her first mind-blowing, toe-curling, passion-filled kiss with you. Get in the right mindset and STAY there!
3. Start Slow...
If, after using tip 1 and tip 2, you're ready to make the kiss but still find that you have a little nervousness and/or tension, following tip 3 will certainly give you the push you need to make the kiss happen. To eliminate this last bit of anxiety and uncertainty, kiss her on a nearby body part instead of on the lips.
For instance, you can do this by embracing her, placing your cheek next to hers, and kissing somewhere around that area... It can be the earlobes, neck, jawline, whatever. Next, start kissing closer and closer toward her lips. If you notice her head turning slightly to yours, then there's a VERY good chance she's willing to be kissed.

How to be a Good Kisser

Advice by: Cristina
Place: Launceston, Australia

Can being a good kisser heighten your chances of having fireworks in your future relationship? Well, it definitely is not the only factor! But it surely does set the mood right for the journey further! Fireworks or silence, soaring mercury or falling temperatures... A kiss definitely does set the mood!

So what makes a good kisser? Simply, a good kisser just avoids the stupidest mistakes that bad kissers make. Period! Just following these 10 tips and warnings below, will not just set you apart from the bad kissers’ category. It will enhance your persona to that of an irresistible and an unforgettable kisser!

1. Knocking Noses & Knocking Teeth as You Kiss
When you lean in to kiss, tilt your face if you are the one taking the lead. Just glance slightly to align your lips with your partner’s before you close your eyes. Another mistake that some people make is when they are either inexperienced or nervous – That is knocking your teeth. The best is to just laugh about it and continue kissing without getting embarrassed.

2. Dry & Chapped Lips - Not Kiss Worthy!
Lips that aren’t in order are just not juicy enough to be desirous. Use a chap stick or Vaseline often to keep your lips soft, smooth and kissable if you don’t want your partner to be turned off. This is something you can’t afford to do on the day of your date, so make it a habit to keep your lips lovable!

3. Bad Dental & Oral Hygiene while Kissing
If you really want to up your kissing quotient, you just can’t afford to have bad oral hygiene and a stinking mouth! Garlic, fish, alcohol, cigarettes, onions and other such stuff ruin your breath completely. Drink water, chew a gum, have a mint or if possible then brush your teeth. Make sure you offer your partner some mint or gum too so that you can perform your best!

4. Biting Lips too Hard too Long
When you add one kiss after the other, it’s a great idea to bite your partner’s lower lip "softly" as you part. Most bad kissers make the mistake of getting lost in the momentum and cling onto their partner’s lip too long. Little do they imagine that it’s frustrating, not enjoyable for the other person. Obviously after such pain, you can’t expect the rhythm of kissing to continue and it ends on an unpleasant note.

5. Sucking Blunders in Kissing Business
There are two major blunders a bad kisser makes when it comes to sucking
a. Stationary Sucking
When you kiss, you are suppose to move slowly from performing one action to another and then another. You are supposed to use your lips and your tongue and your hands! A typical blunder is standing stationary and sealing your partner’s lips as if you have clamped them and you leave your partner gasping for breath.

b. Tongue Sucking
In the moment of kissing, there arises an urge to suck your partner’s tongue. Slurping or sucking on your partner’s tongue is meant to be for a fractional second, not more. It might seem exciting to you, but makes your partner uncomfortable. The idea isn’t to refrain from sucking, but to cut off within a second.
